Things I just borrow&share

Jochen Hung on Germany for The Guardian

I’ve been wondering about truth & overstatement in this whole thing of the bossy Germany holding Europe hostage of austerity. Of course, I have criticised Merkel’s stubbornness and laughed at other European leaders’ bows to Teutonic assertiveness, but I’m all too aware of the fact that Germany is often an alibi for other people’s failures. People quick to forget history and the reasons behind certain German fixations. Anyway, this article is interesting precisely because it blurs the line. It doesn’t indict nor absolve Germany; it doesn’t treat Germany as a monolithic bloc. What it does, is presenting some shrewd observations.

Germany isn’t the big bad boss of Europe
